The Colombina gown is inspired by the mid-18th silhouette, with a slightly cheeky touch.
The dress includes the stays (corset), petticoat (skirt), chemise, apron and coif (as shown in the pictures).

The stays are boned with flexible steel bones or synthetic whalebone, lined with cotton or linen fabric and can be requested with or without the four decorative bows on the centre front: the option without the bows is the one depicted in the photos, the option with the bows is the one depicted in the video. This stays has a spiral back lacing.

The petticoat is closed on the sides, it's lined with cotton or linen fabric and has a decoration made with a different fabric near the dress hem like shown in the pictures.

The chemise can be requested in linen fabric or cotton fabric (the one depicted in the photos is made of cotton). The black velvet ribbons around the sleeves are decorative and completely detached from the chemise, in the video you can see how the chemise sleeves look without the ribbons.

The apron is made of fine white linen and decorated with black velvet.

The coif is made of white linen and it's completely hand sewn.

The underpinnings (under petticoat, panniers/side hoops) are not included, but they can be requested: see the following “custom orders” section.

*Please note: this type of dress requires these underpinnings to achieve the correct silhouette: while in the photos the gown is worn over a stiffer petticoat and side hoops, in the video the gown is worn over a light petticoat and side hoops.*

Options for the corset/stays boning:

Half boned stays = flexible steel bones (this option is the one shown in the photos and video)Full boned stays= synthetic whalebone

(Difference between flexible steel bones and synthetic whalebones: the first are heavier, they are less inclined to bend if stored incorrectly or due to body heat but they are more sensitive to perspiration.
The second are lighter and, even if they get slightly bent, the corset can be restored with pressing.
Both types of boning combine stiffness and flexibility suitable for this type of garment)

The eyelets can be:
-hand sewn with linen or silk thread
-metal eyelet hand-covered with silk thread  (this option has slightly larger eyelets)

Fabric and color

The gown will be made in silk taffetà and/or dupioni, or in faux silk (the dress in the picture is made with faux silk, the fabric is light, pleasing to the touch and, even if it's being made of synthetic fibers, it perfectly mimics the irregular weaving and the iridescence of a shantung fabric) and with color/colors of your choice: please send a message to know the available combinations or if you want/prefer a different type of fabric.
*fabric or color availability depends on the suppliers and can change from season to season*

Any design/fabric change and/or any addition of decorative details must be requested before purchase and involve a variation in costs; your fabric choice must be communicated before purchase.

Measurements

Once you have placed your order, you will receive a list of the measurements that will be needed to make your bespoke garment/ garments plus a diagram / tutorial that will show you how to correctly take those measurements.

Mock-up and fitting

Before placing your order you can request a mock-up of the bodice and skirt: for this design is not strictly needed but it's always suggested to request it, for an estimate, please send an email at elainecouture.info@gmail.com

The mock up service is provided both for customers who can come by the studio for fittings and for customers living abroad.

Customers living abroad will receive the mock-up via courier: we will schedule a video call in which we are going to check the fitting and, once any changes have been established, the customer will send the prototipe back to Elaine's studio (please note: the cost of the mock-up shipment, return and custom fees are charged to the customer).

The cost of this additional service and shipping plus return costs will be defined in the estimate for the bespoke/custom made garment.
